How to Make a Pretty Hair Bow

How many times have people come up to you in the street and told you how beautiful your baby boy is? Even though your baby is wrapped in pink it is frustrating and you need to make your baby girl as girlie as possible.

Hair bows are a great way to stop any doubt in anyone’s minds before they approach you and make a fuss of your new baby, but as you know babies don’t have much hair and the hair they do have is too fine to stick a clip in, so you need to come up with another way to have your baby looking gorgeous.

You can make your own baby bow with a few simple items. You will need:

  • Ribbon
  • Elastic
  • Needle and Thread
  • Beads or a bright button

You can start by tying your bow, it’s important that you take your time and get the size right. You don’t want an enormous bow on the top of your daughter’s head, but rather something pretty and delicate.

Once you have tied the bow, you will want to cut the ends of the ribbon so that they are not too long, this can look great if you cut it at an angle.

Next take your needle and thread and sew a stitch or two into the center of the bow to ensure it doesn’t come apart. A nice feature at this point is to sew a bright button into the center of the bow or even a few beads, but this is entirely up to you.

As you know you need some elastic that can fit comfortably around your baby’s head without being uncomfortable or digging it, this ensures the bow stays on and looks great, almost like a head band.

Some mothers prefer thick elastic in the color of their choice making the pretty hair bow into a complete hair accessory while others prefer a thinner elastic, again this is entirely up to you.

You will want to measure your elastic ensuring it is not too tight on your baby’s head, it just has to hold the bow in place, but too lose and it will just fall off. Cut your elastic and sew the two edges together before sewing your bow over the seam.

Place the elastic on your baby’s head, coming down behind the ears and position the bow to one side for a fantastic girlie look.

How to Make a Diaper Cake

Learn To Make Your Own Diaper Cake In 3 Easy Steps

If you ask any new born baby’s mother about some of her favorite baby shower gifts, chances are one of the things she will mention would be a diaper cake. Diaper cakes are an ideal baby shower gift when you are not sure what to give. One of the really neat benefits of giving diaper cakes is that you can customize the items that are hidden inside the cake. Spending the time to thoughtfully prepare a diaper cake as a gift really shows that you care and that you put a lot of thought into the gift you are giving.

If you think making a diaper cake on our own is a difficult and time consuming task then you are mistaken. In reality, making a diaper cake is very easy once you know the basics.  You can easily create an amazing gift in half an hour. Purchasing all of the items and making it yourself can also save you a lot of money.  Plus making your own special gift to give just makes you feel good!  Who would not want to receive such a meaningful and beautiful gift?

Here is how to make your own diaper cake:

1) Decide on the size of your diaper cake: The very first step in designing your diaper cake is to decide how large you want it to be.  The more tiers you want it to have, and the larger the diameter of the tiers, the more diapers you will have to purchase to build the cake.  For example, if you are making a 3-tiered cake, the very top tier would need 5-6 diapers, the second tier may require 10-15 diapers while the third tier may require 30-35 diapers in total. So deciding the actual number of tiers is important in the initial planning stage as it guides you in how many diapers you need to purchase.

2) Form the bottom tier first and then create the upper tiers: The next step is to roll all the diapers vertically to obtain the cylindrical shape and then use rubber bands to help them hold their shape. First, prepare the bottom layer by joining all the bottom tier diapers into a circular shape held together with tape or large elastic bands. Similarly, prepare the second tier and the first tier and use an adhesive such as tape to join all the tiers to one another.

3) Insert special items wherever you want: Tie special decorative items such as ribbons around the cake to give it a special look.  Gifts such as baby oil or soap, teddy bears, toys, etc. can be inserted inside of or in between diapers to make the diaper cake into a unique and great baby shower gift.

Making your own gift to give is a rewarding experience and something that the mom-to-be is sure to appreciate.  Here is another tutorial about how to make a diaper cake.
