Learn To Make Your Own Diaper Cake In 3 Easy Steps

If you ask any new born baby’s mother about some of her favorite baby shower gifts, chances are one of the things she will mention would be a diaper cake. Diaper cakes are an ideal baby shower gift when you are not sure what to give. One of the really neat benefits of giving diaper cakes is that you can customize the items that are hidden inside the cake. Spending the time to thoughtfully prepare a diaper cake as a gift really shows that you care and that you put a lot of thought into the gift you are giving.

If you think making a diaper cake on our own is a difficult and time consuming task then you are mistaken. In reality, making a diaper cake is very easy once you know the basics.  You can easily create an amazing gift in half an hour. Purchasing all of the items and making it yourself can also save you a lot of money.  Plus making your own special gift to give just makes you feel good!  Who would not want to receive such a meaningful and beautiful gift?

Here is how to make your own diaper cake:

1) Decide on the size of your diaper cake: The very first step in designing your diaper cake is to decide how large you want it to be.  The more tiers you want it to have, and the larger the diameter of the tiers, the more diapers you will have to purchase to build the cake.  For example, if you are making a 3-tiered cake, the very top tier would need 5-6 diapers, the second tier may require 10-15 diapers while the third tier may require 30-35 diapers in total. So deciding the actual number of tiers is important in the initial planning stage as it guides you in how many diapers you need to purchase.

2) Form the bottom tier first and then create the upper tiers: The next step is to roll all the diapers vertically to obtain the cylindrical shape and then use rubber bands to help them hold their shape. First, prepare the bottom layer by joining all the bottom tier diapers into a circular shape held together with tape or large elastic bands. Similarly, prepare the second tier and the first tier and use an adhesive such as tape to join all the tiers to one another.

3) Insert special items wherever you want: Tie special decorative items such as ribbons around the cake to give it a special look.  Gifts such as baby oil or soap, teddy bears, toys, etc. can be inserted inside of or in between diapers to make the diaper cake into a unique and great baby shower gift.

Making your own gift to give is a rewarding experience and something that the mom-to-be is sure to appreciate.  Here is another tutorial about how to make a diaper cake.

Are You Thinking of Adopting?

Adopting a baby is an incredibly fulfilling experience, but it can be a little frightening when you first start out on the process. There are so many things to think about – and so many things that you don’t know – that sometimes you can be a little overwhelmed. Not only that, but there are some pitfalls that you need to avoid to make the process as happy and painless as possible.

To start with, it’s hard to know where to go for information. A good place to start is by talking to adoption agencies in your area – or even national adoption agencies – in order to get a better understanding of the adoption process. It’s also a good idea to read as many books and magazines you can on the subject, as well as taking a look at various web sites. For instance, the US Department of Health and Human Services has an online Child Welfare Information Gateway that has all sorts of useful information about adoption. If you have the opportunity, talk to parents who have adopted children – and if you don’t know anyone, then try contacting an adoption support group to see if there are adoptive parents who would be willing to talk to you.

Another key thing to consider is what type of child you want to adopt. For instance, do you want a newborn baby, or do you want to adopt an older child? For that matter, do you want a boy or a girl? If all that matters to you is that you have a child that you can love, then this will speed up the adoption process – whereas if you have specific needs, adoption can take longer.

You should also consider the type of relationship that you want to have with your child’s birth parents. For example, many people have open adoptions today – where the birth mother has access to the adopted child. If you do decide on an open adoption – and there are real advantages to this for your child – then you need to think about how that relationship would work. You will have the opportunity to discuss this with the birth mother before the adoption is finalized, so it’s important to know beforehand what you are comfortable with.

When people start an adoption process, they often run out and tell everyone about the joyous news. However, before you do this, take a minute to stop and think. It may take many months for your adoption to be finalized and lots of things can go wrong – you may even have to start all over again at the beginning. Are you comfortable with everyone knowing that you are going through this – and asking you how it is going every time that you see them? Or, would it be better to share the news with a few people that you trust, and wait until the adoption is finalized before you go out and tell everyone that you have a new child on the way?
